Removing wisdom teeth is one of the most common oral surgery procedures at North Sound Oral & Facial Surgery. The procedure typically lasts between one and two hours, and most patients find themselves back to their normal routine within a few days.
Oral Exam
Your first appointment with Dr. Brar will start with a comprehensive oral exam. Dr. Brar will review your medical and dental history, order any additional scans, and determine if your wisdom teeth require removal at this time. If they do, Dr. Brar will map out a treatment plan, which includes discussing your options for anesthesia. Any questions that you may have will be addressed at this time. We will provide detailed pre-operative instructions to help you prepare for your upcoming wisdom tooth removal procedure.
Anesthesia Options
The most popular anesthesia option for wisdom tooth removal is a combination of IV sedation and local anesthesia, but other options are available and are dependent on your medical history, personal preference, and other factors. More information about the types of anesthesia that we offer at North Sound Oral & Facial Surgery is located on our website, or you may contact our office to learn more.
Surgical Procedure
After the anesthesia is administered, your oral surgeon will make an incision through the gums to expose the wisdom teeth. Depending on the position and condition of the tooth, it may be extracted whole or broken into segments. Once the teeth have been removed, the surgical areas are sutured, and you will rest comfortably until the anesthesia wears off.
If you have chosen IV sedation, a responsible adult must be present to drive you to and from your surgical appointment. This person must also be able to monitor you until the anesthesia has worn off completely.
After Surgery
We want you to have a quick, safe, and ideal recovery. Our staff will provide pre-operative care instructions for you to follow. Most patients are advised to stick to a diet of soft foods in the days following surgery. It is also important to keep the surgical sites clean as they heal. If you have any questions about your post-operative care, please contact our office.
